In 2002 I spent a night and a day in Indianapolis on my way to Southern Indiana. I stayed at the campgrounds at the State Fair Grounds, which I wouldn't recommend to anyone; it's a poor-quality facility with no amenities and is much more expensive than Indiana State Parks. Mounds State Park at Anderson is a much nicer facility for a more reasonable price.
I took a bike ride on the Monon Trail from 38th Street north to Carmel. The Indy Greenways are extensive and very well done, and the Monon Trail is heavily used.

I spent some time looking around the White River State Park area before heading on south to Brown County.
