We experienced high water in early March, 2009, and when the water receded a large section of
undercut and saturated riverbank slid into the riverbed. The collapse brought a steep slope of
mostly sand and poor-quality fill to within about a foot of the edge of the street.
The Street Department had orange barrels installed, with flashers. A local TV station came to tape the scene.
After a few months the orange barrels were replaced with orange plastic Jersey barriers, which were to adorn the view from my property for the next
two-and-a-half years.
Just up the street a block, a passing motorist spotted what he thought was a body on the riverbank. The fellow turned out to be very much alive and just
very much in need of a nap.
