Fort Wayne came together September 11, 2008 at the Law Enforcement/Firefighters Memorial on North Wells Street
to remember 2,974 people who died in the attacks on the Pentagon and New York's World Trade Center and in the
crash of a hijacked plane at Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The Fort Wayne Police Department Honor Guard and the
Police/Fire Drum and Pipe Brigade joined area police officers, firefighters and citizens.

Park with Mike Montagano, candidate for Indiana's 3rd Congressional District
seat in the 2008 election.

Jerry Vandeveer addresses the gathered firefighters, police and citizens. Jerry
and his wife, Linda, originated the idea for the Law Enforcement/Firefighters'
Memorial and have provided much of the energy behind its creation.

The Police & Firefighters' Pipe and Drum Brigade contributed to the solemnity of the occasion with a moving
rendition of an old standard, Amazing Grace.

Tom Didier sang the National Anthem.

The pipers and drummers exit the field.

Jerry offers his remembrances and opens the lecturn to anyone from the assembled
crowd who want to share recollections of 9/11/01.
